Parkour Coaching Standards
This document outlines the conditions on which a coach (as part of an organisation or as
an individual professional) should operate. This guidance is for those who are involved in
the Coaching of Parkour activities within a designated, and appropriately risk-assessed
environment.
In addition to this guidance, please refer to local and legal requirements for policies on:

- Designated environments:
- Indoor private spaces, such as dedicated Parkour gyms & schools.
- Indoor public spaces, such as gyms, leisure centres, and sports clubs
- Outdoor private spaces, such as school playgrounds, or private parks
- Outdoor public spaces, such as adequately risk assessed parks, or public urban areas
- Designated equipment:
- Fixed, parkour specific equipment (e.g parkour park, dedicated gym)
- Moveable Parkour equipment (e.g Continental, FreeMove, Natural Sports)
- Moveable sports equipment (e.g vault horses, balance beams, generic sports equipment)
- Street Furniture and Natural Environment (e.g walls, trees, fences, urban architecture)
- Coaching Ratios:
These coach:participant ratios should be observed in all coach-led sessions.
- Indoor private environment 1:15
- Outdoor Private location 1:15
- Indoor public space: 1:15
- Outdoor public space: 1:8 (under 18s/mixed age) 1:10 (over 18s)
- Coaching:
Coaching is defined as a Parkour session which is planned and led by at least one
qualified coach. The participants follow the instruction and guidance of the coach using
the competencies taught as part of the coach’s education.
- The coach:participant ratios outlined in this document must be followed.
- A level 2 coach can coach a class independently.
- A level 1 coach must only operate in the assistance of a level 2 and cannot coach a class independently.
- A level 2 coach can lead a session of up to 45 learners with an appropriate number of level 1 coaches to the ratios outlined in point a.
- Qualifications
Parkour UK recognise all relevant 1st4Sport level 1 & level 2 sports coaching
qualifications. Parkour UK also recognise relevant international qualifications which
meet the UK National Occupational Standards for Instructing Physical Activity. Insurance
purchased as part of a Parkour UK membership will require Parkour UK qualifications for
cover to be valid.

Parkour UK recognise Parkour activities to be defined as any movements and skills
which fall under the Families of Movement set out in our coach education programme:
- Rolling
- Running
- Jumping & Landing
- Vaulting
- Swinging
- Climbing
- Crawling
